Introducing the restaurants we visited in Dong Hoi: Bánh Bèo Cô Vân and Đặc sản bánh lọc Mệ Xuân

Here are some restaurants I visited during my stay in Dong Hoi.

I will introduce the hotel staff and restaurants I popped into during my stay in the city of Dong Hoi.

Each region in Vietnam is famous for several dishes, so this time I decided to try as many of the local specialties as possible.

When you think of famous foods in Vietnam, the first thing that comes to mind is pho.

Apart from pho, there are also many other dishes such as the Vietnamese sandwich called banh mi, Vietnamese-style ramen called bun bo hue, Vietnamese omelette called banh xeo, dry noodles called mi quaang, and bun cha, which is like Vietnamese somen noodles.

I’m looking forward to seeing how many I can eat this time.

A local restaurant where Banh Xeo was delicious:Bánh Bèo Cô Vân

This is a local restaurant that was recommended to me by the hotel staff.

The menu doesn’t have much to offer, so I ordered based on the menu name and photos.

Here we eat Banh Xeo.

The restaurant is a local family-run restaurant.

The owner’s father can only speak Vietnamese, so we managed to order with gestures.

This is Banh Xeo.

It’s filled with plenty of vegetables and shrimp.

With side dishes of vegetables,

A salad of slightly sour pickled papaya and carrots, wrapped in rice paper with cucumber and served with homemade sesame sauce.

This is absolutely delicious!

It’s really delicious!

And I wonder what this dish was called?

It has a texture similar to a combination of chicken and tofu, and is similar to Vietnamese meatballs.

It’s on a skewer so it’s easy to eat, and the owner’s father took our order while checking how many we could finish between the two of us.

These skewers are pre-seasoned so they’re delicious just as they are, but they’re also delicious dipped in miso sauce if you like.

The pho I had for breakfast in Hanoi was delicious, but the banh xeo and meatballs I tried for the first time were also delicious.

Famous Banh Bok Lok restaurant:Đặc sản bánh lọc Mệ Xuân

There we ate a dish called Banh bot lọc, which is sweet and spicy stir-fried shrimp and pork wrapped in tapioca skin and steamed or boiled.

It is located near an intersection close to the river.

This restaurant is also popular with locals, and when we went there at around 6pm there were still only a few tables occupied.

The seats are made of stainless steel and have a down-to-earth feel, and the tables and chairs are low-key, which is common in local restaurants in Vietnam.

The restaurant wasn’t crowded when we entered, but by 7 o’clock it was full of local customers.

We ordered Banh Bok Loc.

They were individually wrapped in bamboo-like leaves.

I looked it up later and it turns out they were banana leaves.

When you open the leaf, it looks like a transparent rice cake with small shrimp inside.

It’s very bouncy.

It was served with a vinegar-based sauce containing chili peppers, so you dip it in that and eat it.

The texture was like that of easy-to-chew mochi (rice cake).

I prefer soy sauce for the sauce, but it was delicious.

There also seemed to be steamed rice cakes called banh nam, but I didn’t notice them at the time as I can’t read Vietnamese.
