Elegant lunch at TOYO Retaurant
Today was my first time in Tokyo in almost a year.
I went to TOYO Restaurant on the third floor of Hibiya Mitsui Tower.
Hibiya Mitsui Tower is right next to Hibiya Park.
It’s a building that I’ve been interested in ever since it was completed in 2018.
It is directly connected to Hibiya Station, and the basement and the lower floors up to the 3rd floor are filled with restaurants and cafes.
The upper floors are office buildings.
There are many casual restaurants in the basement, and the impression is that there are many places where you can just drop in casually. There are also bistro-style restaurants and ethnic restaurants like Thai food, so it’s hard to decide where to go.
The higher you go, the more restaurants with a formal atmosphere there are.
This time, I had lunch with a friend for the first time in a while at TOYO Restaurant, a French restaurant on the 3rd floor.
I think there were two course meals available for lunch.
I was wondering whether to go for the cheaper course, but when I saw that the standard course was 5,000 yen, I went ahead and ordered the standard course.
The restaurant isn’t very large, but there are semi-private rooms that could be used for groups, and a counter where you can casually enjoy French cuisine by yourself.
I went past the counter and sat at a table at the back.
The interior of the restaurant has an open feel, with a faint view of the greenery outside.
The tables are spaciously arranged, which is reassuring given the current situation, and from the perspective of privacy, it also creates an atmosphere where you can eat and talk in peace.
The meal roughly follows the order of salad, appetizer, soup, bread, fish dish, meat dish, dessert, and drink.
The waiter’s subtle skill in explaining the dishes and drinks at just the right time without interrupting the conversation and serving the food is outstanding.
The portions of each dish are not large at first glance.
After all, it’s French.
I wondered whether I would get full, but I enjoyed each beautiful and delicious dish served on beautiful plates.
I didn’t take photos of all the dishes, so I’ll only introduce a few, but these were so beautiful that I couldn’t help but take photos.
This dish is made with seasonal vegetables such as kogomi and bamboo shoots, garnished with dried mullet roe powder, and green vegetables in a soup made with clam extract.
The soup was poured right in front of us, stimulating all five senses.
And this is the main meat dish.
I think it was a hamburger steak made with Matsusaka beef.
The hamburger steak was small, but very filling and incredibly delicious.
And then, dessert.
Strawberry sorbet and dumplings (I think).
Each dish was delicately presented, and I was deeply moved to have a meal so carefully prepared for me, for the first time in a long time.
The meal progressed quickly and it was a very enjoyable lunch.
The food added a wonderful touch to the lively conversation.
The final farewell from the staff was also wonderful!
I’d like to return for a meal on a special occasion.
