Tansukeroku in Nihonbashi
Tansukeroku is located exactly in the middle of a square that encompasses Nihonbashi Station, Kayabacho Station, Hatchobori Station, Takaracho Station, and Kyobashi Station.
It’s located one alley away from the main street (Heisei-dori), so it’s quite difficult to find if you’re just walking by, but it’s a beef tongue restaurant that you should definitely try if you’re in the area.
The colorful sign that resembles a kabuki-age is the landmark.
They are open for both lunch and dinner, but I have never had dinner there, so I will introduce my lunch recommendations.
Here is the lunch menu.
I get the impression that more than 80% of customers order beef tongue.
I always order the beef tongue set meal here, and I like to add grated yam.
The restaurant is quite small, and as soon as you enter there are about eight counter seats.
Behind those are about four table seats.
Behind the counter seats there is only enough space for one person to walk, so people basically have to give way to each other to move around.
In front of the counter seats is a staff member busily grilling beef tongue, and the proprietress cheerfully serves customers.
As soon as you place your order, bowls of barley rice and oxtail soup are brought to you.
The rice is served a little generously, but if you order grated yam, even this is not enough rice.
Many office workers ask for refills of barley rice.
I sip this oxtail soup while waiting for the beef tongue to be grilled. The gentle flavour of the soup is irresistible.
The saltiness is just right.
No sooner have I taken a few sips of the soup than the beef tongue and grated yam are brought out.
The garnish is lightly pickled cabbage.
Immediately place the grated yam on top of the barley rice.
It’s already seasoned, so there’s no need to add soy sauce.
The beef tongue has just the right amount of salt, making it a great dish to go with rice.
It’s juicy and delicious!
For those who like spicy food, there is a jar on the table, so we recommend the miso-pickled chili peppers in it.
Both the beef tongue and oxtail soup are so delicious that you’ll finish it in no time.
I don’t know if it’s because of this, but even though the restaurant is quite small, the turnover is surprisingly good.
At lunchtime, customers come and go one after another.
The proprietress handles the payment for you near the middle of the restaurant.
This is recommended for those who want to quickly eat plenty of delicious beef tongue during lunch hours when they don’t have much time.

My Note: Tabelog says that they accept credit cards, but I think they would be happier if you could pay quickly with cash at lunchtime. I think most customers paid with cash at lunchtime. Also, on weekdays, you have to share a table. Many people work nearby, so you have a limited lunch break, so be considerate.
